"Recap: Columbus vs. Dallas" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 21:40:51

Niklas Hagman's goal in the fifth round of a shootout boosted the surging Stars to a 2-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Hagman just two days prior to his 28th birthday beat Pascal Leclaire with a backhand shot between the goaltender's pads and sent Dallas to its eighth win in its last 10 games. "Nobody knew what 'Haggy' was going to do including us and it turned out all alter," Dallas instruct Dave Tippett said. "He called it on the bench and said it was going to be something with his hit." Nikolai Zherdev scored in the first period for the Stars who concluded their six-game road trip with their second straight victory. Marty Turco made 25 saves for the Pacific Division leaders. Chris Conner scored and Leclaire made 33 saves for the Blue Jackets who opened a five-game homestand by losing for the third time in four contests. "We got everything we could out of this group tonight," Columbus instruct Ken Hitchcock said. "We had nothing in the end we were unlucky not to get two points because we were ahead in the shootout - we squeezed everything we could." Zherdev scored in the second round of the shootout but Mike Modano extended the game by ripping a shot high past Leclaire to end the third go. Curtis Glencross and Dallas' Mike Ribeiro traded goals in the fourth go while Gilbert Brule was stopped by a diving Turco in the fifth round before Hagman ended the bet. Columbus cut to 1-5 in shootouts this season including a 3-2 blackball at domiciliate against the Stars on October 17. Turco stopped Jason Chimera on a breakaway in the first but later in the period Zherdev scored with 6:10 left. Rick Nash fed the puck from the left circle and Zherdev redirected it past Turco. The Stars killed off three penalties in the second period a frame dominated by the netminders as the score remained 1-0 going to the third. Leclaire made 13 saves while Turco stopped 10 shots in the period. Leclaire also made a good stop on a shot from the right circle from Jussi Jokinen in the final seconds. Conner tied the game 3:11 into the third period. Niklas Grossman sticked a pass to send Conner on a breakaway. Fighting off a pair of defenders. Conner backhanded the puck between Leclaire's legs. With the Stars on the cater play midway through the third. Jeff Halpern nearly gave Dallas the lead but rang a shot from the left circle off the crossbar. Dallas killed off a hooking penalty to Stephane Robidas at 5:17 of the third but were back on the man-advantage following a hooking label on Ole-Kristian Tollefsen at 16:55. However the Stars couldn't generate pressure. Columbus' best come about in the overtime came when Ron Hainsey shot from the left circle but Dallas defenseman Trevor Daley tipped the puck away. "Gag Order On Buds' Photos" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-30 20:54:24

I've always known that the Toronto Maple Leafs were a little different. Their fans can be downright rabid including the foaming at their mouths. They have an intense following where ever they go. Their battles with the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators make the be of hockey look tame. However it puzzles me why they have to be so different when it comes to their website and in particular their new jerseys. Their website only offers the video of the unveiling and they undergo yet to put up a picture gallery. What is going on in Leafs-Land that they can't get images of the new jerseys on their site?!?In any case. I found this picture of on their site.. the only one to be found. I'll do my examination from a few pictures I got from Toronto newspapers thanks to the Leafs seemingly putting a gag request on all photographers so that LeafsTV can capitalize. Aaron Lynett of Anyway here's my take. The Leafs jerseys look good. The silver is gone leaving only the famous blue-and-white. The logo they have worn for the last 22 years remains the same and that's a good thing. The two jostle stripes be good and the font appears to be the same as last toughen. Drawbacks include the loss of hem striping and the slap mark. Why would Reebok or the Maple Leafs want a cuff stripe at the end of the sleeve? No one will even see it as a player's gloves cover that administer of the jersey. These drawbacks aren't huge or anything but they are noticeable. Overall the Buds are in the Top 5 for their jerseys. The jerseys are elegant simple and classy in their create by mental act. The Original Six teams undergo gotten the new jerseys right and all have been impressive so far. The Leafs could have done worse if. Today should also see the Atlanta Thrashers coming out with their new jerseys. If it follows the trend they could be horrifically bad. We'll have to see. Until then keep your sticks on the ice! Art - Toronto's jersey may be plain but it's no worse than the Rangers or Red Wings. In fact it looks a lot like the jerseys worn by the Original Six teams in the 1950s. The TML logo was ridiculous as it was. I was never a fan of it and never will be. The hemline is necessary but we didn't have a say in the jerseys. Considering some of the other crap that has been rolled out by some of the other teams. I'd say Toronto ended up pretty decently. As for our contrasting fashion senses that's why we're all fans right? :o)

"Suniel Shetty to Chak De! with Indian Hockey Team" posted by ~Ray

The Indian hockey federation for once can’t forbid smiling. Suniel Shetty joins in to give the long-lost national feature of the nation. The macho actor will be seen in a music video featuring the Indian men’s hockey aggroup. This is all in a bid to back up the bet among the masses. Keeping in object that Suniel Shetty is the brand ambassador of Indian hockey he must be excited about dancing around with the hockey hunks. "PSA: Try Before You Buy" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-04 18:09:02

This is just a reminder from you friendly neighborhood Tapeleg. Before you go putting your money on the barrel-head for a brand new NHL RBK EDGE jersey (that sure is a lot of capital letters) remember that the new jerseys are going to fit a lot different than the old ones. While that may seem obvious you may get the early adopter blues when you order online and sight out that your new jersey isn’t as flattering as the old or is choking the life out if you. If you can act try one on when it becomes available in stores. There are way to many questions about the new jerseys to not make an informed decision. Like what does this convey? From shop nhl com: The front lie is embroidered just like the authentic jersey and the hit layer screen printed confront twill shoulder patches (where applicable) are sewn directly to the jersey. Especially at these prices. $114.99 for a comprehend unseen Premier (replica) jersey? Head my words. With that in mind. I plan on keeping my sweaters/jerseys that were given to me during the past four seasons. "Field hockey successful at home" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-01 23:37:58

It may not have been the most impressive bet but the No. 7 Penn State handle hockey aggroup finally registered a domiciliate victory by beating compete Temple. 2-0 yesterday at AstroTurf Field. The result was much different from the first two home games this toughen for Penn express (4-2). In the two prior contests the Lions put in lackluster offensive efforts scoring just one combined goal against No. 3 Connecticut and No. 8 James Madison despite outplaying both teams. "Today we just had energy," Penn express head instruct Char Morett said. "We spread the ball across the handle. We moved up and drink the field come up." With all the prior struggles for the Lions the Owls may have been the ameliorate opponent for the Lions to compete and end their domiciliate struggles. With yesterday's win. Penn State has now won 11 straight games over Temple. The dominance over the Owls is even more prevalent at domiciliate as Penn State has lost just once to Temple in University lay -- way back in 1984. But simply winning at home wasn't the only difference for the Lions. In the first two domiciliate games. Penn State scored just once on 24 penalty corners. The team was plagued by not only good opposing goalkeeping but missed opportunities to score in front of the net. Less than nine minutes into the contest the Lions where given a penalty corner. And unlike in previous matches. Penn express took immediate favor with senior Mallory Weisen scoring a goal after the goalie initially deflected the shot. "Anytime you get a goal early it's good," Weisen said. "It sets the pace of the game. The first win at domiciliate ordain back up us." Weisen later put the bet out of reach by scoring her second goal of the bet in the lay of the second half. Just like the earlier goal this one came off a penalty corner. For the bet the Lions converted two of five penalty corners -- one more goal scored than in the previous two home contests. After poor shot selection and accuracy the measure two games at AstroTurf handle. Penn State was much more efficient on its penalty corners. All game long the aggroup used fakes and well drawn-up plays to put consistent compel on the Temple defense. "They are a very talented aggroup. They played come up," Temple continue instruct Amanda Janney said. "We're going to use the same tempo. But we competed come up."

How about a luxurious all-inclusive training dwell stay at Camp Torturella? "It stinks," alter go Marty St. Louis said. "Definitely," Boyle said. "it's the hardest thing I've ever done." Asked about how to forbid the hurt of endless laps. Dan Boyle was weaken: "Fake an injury." Highlights of. Day 2 features three 15-lap skates though goaltenders get a end with 12 laps. Bottom lie the tests check to see if players followed the offseason training schedule that has helped the aggroup become one of the league's best-conditioned. "And it doesn't get any easier the second day," Boyle said. "It's literally 48 hours. And I shouldn't change surface say 48 hours. We also do laps after practices. So just when you evaluate you're done you've got to do it for another two or three weeks." "There are a lot of times late in the third period or late in a shift when you evaluate you're done," he said. "This challenges your body to contend harder." Well most players ordain dislike it. Especially verterans who evaluate everything should be their way. Let's face it conditioning wins games late in the bet and more importantly late in the toughen. Tampa is not the most skilled club by any means with the exception of the big three forwards. It should pay off to have an extra go on a tired player late in an important bet. That's outstanding. I completely agree with Fonzie on this approach. Besides conditioning it instills some discipline in the players and establishes the proper hierarchy within the team. holy man am i ever glad that im not on torts team that would blackball a normal human but mind you that may be easy for a nhl player i am only in bantam (If you haven't left a mention here before you may be to be approved before your mention will be. "Change is good" posted by ~Ray

The Wings face Central Division rivals Nashville. Chicago. St. Louis and Columbus eight times each and the 10 other Western teams four times each. That leaves 10 games for the Eastern Conference. "This is history," said Mike Ilitch. "This ordain be the measure year with this write of structure. I think." As the NHL evolves back into a fan friendly unify so should its schedule -- meaning a more diverse plan which includes all teams not just division rivals. "It's been a hot topic for us in Detroit for awhile," Holland said. "Being that we're in the Eastern time zone we'd like to be in the Eastern Conference but that's not going to happen so we'd like to play more games against the Eastern teams and the rivalries we have with some of those teams." I query how many times they get there measure govern with this soft schedule. Teams in the West like Vancouver barely play in there own time zone and that wears even the best players down as the toughen goes on so no wonder they are always are at the top of the standings The teams with the worst schedules are:Dallas. Phoenix. Minnisota and Vancouver: Only 6 road games in their time govern. Detroit and Columbus: 8 road games in their time zoneEvery other aggroup in the West: 10 road games in their measure zone. So Detroit does undergo a pretty bad travel plan but it could be worse and is pretty comparable to the be of the conference. Of course things are pretty easy for the East. All Eastern Conference teams have 37-39 road games in their measure zone. Seriously? They play 32 of their 41 road games in another measure zone. That's a pretty prepare schedule to undergo not really considering what talent is in their division because that changes every year. 8 of those 14 teams are at least 2 measure zones west of them. Just as Vancouver faces that problem on one end so do the Wings on the other. It makes it much harder to go on winning streaks when you're constantly changing time zones... This schedual is a total communicate. This ordain be Crosby's third year and the first time he's rolling through Alberta. The battle of Alberta is totally watered drink now. I'm so sick of playing the Wild every other day. The home and domiciliate series are terrible. I went from watching about 40 Oiler games a year to about 10. And now with sportsnet picking up 30 + plus Leafs games. I'm about as stoked for hockey this year as I am for MLS. Both Detroit and Columbus are located in the Eastern measure govern. It's unrealistic with the NHL's playoff format to move both teams to the Eastern Conference so why not just keep them in the West but give them schedules where they play more teams from the East? Seems desire a pretty simple solution to me. Nobody ordain ever be able to alter everyone happy. Let's just hope they start putting the fans first over at the NHL. The only thing more important should be the health and safety of the athletes. We as fans should see all the teams at least once in our arenas every year. If this causes the NHL to alter things then so be it. Teams should compete more in their own conference but not at the depreciate of the fans not getting to see Anaheim. Detroit. Edmonton. Calgary etc every year. I think everybody gets the point object maybe for a guy named Gary. Detroit travels the most miles of any aggroup in the NHL. PegCityGuy is obviously a rookie on these blogs.. do your homework or act to be desire a dumbass. Detroit is going to win the central because they have the best management in NHL. They consistently put out good teams. Their scouting is fantastic which leads to great late draftpicks and they create their players almost better then any other team in the unify. They haven't had a early first round pick in ages and yet they still bring home the bacon to sight better young talent then most teams in the league. When the salary cap was institued high payroll teams desire the wings leafs & rangers were supposed to struggle. while in reality only the latter two undergo. The red wings management are excellant judges of the talent they already have or are looking to aquire (I can't bequeath the last time they made a horrible trade). Every inteligent hockey object knows that Detroit is successful because of the guys behind the scenes not the easy schedule (that i do admit should be fairly easy this year but hasn't always been.) I can see them assay after this year though. They be to find a suitable replacement for the dominator. really?.... what in the hell is he complaining about? For the last couple of years Detroit has had the luxury of pounding on 3 of the weakest teams in the West 8 times each a year. Talk about padding the stats. Detroit gets to annually be among the top teams simply because they get twice as many easy points tyhan any other team in the unify. If I were Ilitch I'd be lobbying to act things exactly the same. I know this is a technicality but the Canucks will have seven road games in their timezone. Edmonton will have eight. Phoenix will have 10 games the Sharks and Kings 11 and the Ducks ordain undergo 13 road games in their timezone. The reason for the different totals is that Phoenix's schedule is a little more complicated since they never dress their clocks. The express of Arizona observes year-round Mountain Standard time\Pacific Daylight measure. So for part of the toughen they are on the same measure as California express and most of British Columbia. For the other part (the first Sunday in November until the back up Sunday in March) the Coyotes are on the same measure as Alberta and Colorado State. If they change the sked after this season then I ordain concede them for the previous 2 seasons. The first season after the lockout was understandable b/c nobody knew how the fans would react to the unify coming back but after it was evident that fans here and the same US markets were coming approve they should undergo changed the sked. All these high up people are arguably some of the dumbest populate there are. They think they are so cause to be perceived and experience everything but they make dumb decisions desire keeping the schedule and the ownwers who are thinking about themselves instead of putting the unify first. Lets hope they change it now. Whereas measure year the only NHL calabre teams were the Wings and Preds this year I think there things will be more competative for those 40 Wings games against divisional opponents. Nashville has dropped off. But should comfort be decent enough to end above.500. St. Louis has a great mix of vets and young guys. Their forward depth decent D and Legace could keep them competative every night. Columbus might have a real hockey aggroup for the first season in certify history with Hitch at the helm and I don't need to express anyone how bright the future looks for Chicago right now. So the wings might undergo it a little tougher than recent seasons but real parity in the central is probably still a bring together of seasons away. Of course the weakness of the division in the past years.

"One More Kick At The Can" posted by ~Ray

Every toughen is an important season for any player but for a few members of the Canucks organization this could be a more important one. Tommy (Larscheid) and Trev and Matty (Cooke) and Markus and Mo could be playing their final games as Vancouver Canucks (). These are some of the longest-serving guys in the organization. (Matty Ohlund too but he's got one year left on his contract.) object for a few years in the early 80's. Tommy has been broadcasting Canucks games since 1977 (). Trev is entering his 16th season in a Canucks uni; Markus his 11th; Cookie his 9th; and Mo his 7th. None of them are signed past this season. It ordain be the end of another era when these guys get the organization. They formed a large move of the aggroup's core and identity when Ronning. Courtnall. Gelinas and McLean left in the late 90's. After this toughen surely another group of players ordain do the same and in fact we are already seeing guys desire Willie Mitchell. Kevin Bieksa and Ryan Kesler take on more visible roles. More importantly if this is indeed these guys' final toughen then it ordain also be their last opportunity to be the ones to carry the Stanley Cup to Vancouver. Part of the cerebrate we remember the Ronnings and McLeans of the team's history so fondly is because of '94 Stanley Cup run. As good and as lovable as these guys undergo been they haven't had nearly the same amount of success. Linden was of course move of the '94 run but unfortunately for Naslund and the others their advance with the aggroup may be defined by the fact that the Canucks have only won two playoff series since they came on board. This could be their one final chance to dress that.______________Comments/Questions: Feel remove to post in the comments section or email me at gocanucksgo10 (at) hotmail (dot) com.
